Assignment 4: Reflection on Tutor Feedback

Following tutor feedback on my assignment for part 4 I have included this post to collate all of the following links to coursework completed as Part 4 and amended as a response to feedback. I agree that, with the adjustments in place, the exercise on museum posters is much improved with a preformed (Times NewContinue reading “Assignment 4: Reflection on Tutor Feedback”

Part 4: Assignment 4: Guilty Secret

I arranged my chosen objects to represent the phrase Guilty Secret like so and made a quick sketch. I then photographed this and printed it off for experimentation. The above image lacks focus I feel. The bra draped over the wine bottle, not sure about that. The shape of the cup too closely mimics theContinue reading “Part 4: Assignment 4: Guilty Secret”

Part 4: Exercise 7: Character Development

For this exercise I was called upon to research different characters and to produce two different ones of my own, to illustrate them in different positions to express their differences of personality. I looked through lots of examples of character design within the books on my bulging shelves. Here are just a few: Above isContinue reading “Part 4: Exercise 7: Character Development”

Part 4: Exercise 6: Visual Distortion

I have two images of this dog, named Jake, who was a close personal friend of mine back in the noughties. One image is more characterful than the other. The following was drawn using a 2b pencil and brown and grey coloured pencil crayons. Although it’s more accurate a portrayal of how the recently groomedContinue reading “Part 4: Exercise 6: Visual Distortion”

Part 4: Exercise 4: Menu Card: “l’ailette bleu”

I began this exercise by giving my fictitious restaurant a name, L’ailette bleu, or The Blue Fin. It came to me in response to a memory of eating at my favourite fish and chip establishment in St Leonard’s-on-Sea, The Blue Fish. Things always sound more sophisticated in French, unless of course you are actually French.Continue reading “Part 4: Exercise 4: Menu Card: “l’ailette bleu””

Part 4: Exercise 3: Animals from Around the World: Cover design

When I set about researching this project I found a lot of books online with photographs of animals or photo realistic imagery. This left me a little cold. I preferred those with cover designs that were clearly hand drawn: As a warm-up exercise I turned instead to an illustrator by the name of Terry RunyanContinue reading “Part 4: Exercise 3: Animals from Around the World: Cover design”

Part 4: Exercise 2: Outcome for Museum Poster

I showed this line visual to my partner who commented that the Venus I’d depicted looked “a little broader in the beam” than the original figurine. For the purposes of the colour line visual I’ll continue to use this sketch and upload it to my iPad to play around with colour combinations. Then, when I’mContinue reading “Part 4: Exercise 2: Outcome for Museum Poster”

Part 4: Exercise 2: Museum Posters

I began this exercise by researching contemporary poster design as well as those from the past. I researched objects at my local museum in St Albans, The Verulamium Museum. I took many photographs, but narrowed it down to just three items. There were other contenders for the shortlist, such as this delicate and attractive glassContinue reading “Part 4: Exercise 2: Museum Posters”

Feedback on tutor report for assignment 3

I tweaked three of my exercises as a result of receiving feedback (largely positive) from my tutor, including on assignment 3, the music event poster. The following links will show the full story on each with the refreshed outcomes right at the end. Part 3: Assignment 3: Part 2: Poster Music Event: Toyah Part 3:Continue reading “Feedback on tutor report for assignment 3”
